Naturopathy (also known as Natural Medicine) is commonly referred to as an alternative medical system. Naturopathy doesn’t try to compete with conventional medicine, rather it endeavours to complete it. This form of healing slots right into the obvious gaps of the conventional health care system. In this sense, all health care systems are complementary to one another.
Naturopathy focuses on natural remedies and the body’s innate ability to heal and maintain itself. Naturopathic philosophy favours a holistic approach and minimal use of surgery and drugs. Its approach emphasises prevention through stress reduction and a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Naturopaths specialise in preventative health care, as well as care for chronic health conditions.
And, while Naturopaths & Medical Herbalists do not deal with extreme acute situations (e.g. heart attacks, strokes, and broken bones) we can support you to recover from these conditions (in conjunction with your conventional treatments.)
Take this blog-post for example.
Now, every Naturopath’s style, and approach to your health is different. And, Lisa’s style is relaxed, and informal.
Her initial approach is to have you complete a health evaluation form (prior to your appointment), and then to discuss this in person at OOMPH.
Lisa works with you holistically: your state of mind; how your relationships are affecting you; if you’re working too hard or exercising too much; what your diet is like – and whatever else might prove relevant.
And, depending on what’s going on with you, she may prescribe 0-3 supplements to you.
Lisa doesn’t recommend testing unless absolutely necessary. Here is her philosophy on this:
Testing. Testing. 1,2,3.
Lisa (Naturopath Auckland) has a particular interest in:
— increasing resilience to stress
— dispensing life advice
— improving thyroid function
— correcting mood disorders
(anxiety, depression, and OCD)
— correcting sex-hormone imbalance
— correcting food intolerance
— increasing energy levels
— improving sleep quality
— creating a robust immune system
— helping you to achieve a healthy weight, and
— making sense of all the conflicting health information ‘out-there’.
Again – every Naturopath and/or Medical Herbalist has a unique approach to the way they practice. To get an idea of Lisa’s unique approach, please check out the blog she writes about health: lisasaidso.co.nz
Note: Lisa primarily treats adults (those above 12 years old). She does however deal with children (not babies) in regards to establishing and treating food intolerance.
